My Damn Car!!!

When I first got my new job and began making some real money I went straight out and bought myself a new car. I love it, it is Fast, Beautiful, has all the techy/geeky gadgets that I love, and did I mention that it is Fast...

Anyway it has been plagued with minor problems, windows stop working, computer failures, security systems failures, sunroof won’t close... on and on. It has been in the shop every month since I got it in Sept of 03. I was so excited last time I picked it up because I was so confident that that was the last time, and everything was settled and working... WRONG!!! During the holiday the seatbelt broke, the passenger window stopped working right, the drivers seat broke, and now something is wrong with the engine where it is using oil and the computer put it into "limp mode" where it basically shuts off the turbo and it loses all of its power. ARRRGGGH!!! Why does this happen to a brand new $35k car!!! it has 24k miles!!!

OK, I’m done venting, I had better get back to work and schedule my month appointment with the mechanic.

If you are interested it is a 2003 Saab 9-3 Arc 2.0T 6-Speed manual. Oh and of course I will post a picture to show off how beautiful it is.

I know exactly how you feel. I got my first real job out of college and went out and got a brand spanking new VW Passat with leather interior, heated seats, sounds system, alloy wheels, tiptronic transmission, moon roof and a bunch fo other gadgets. It was the 1.8T version. That freakin car was the most luxurious piece of crap I ever bought. Turns out I bought the first year of the new model. It was actually a 2001.5 version. Stupid thing was always in the shop and basically none of it was covered under warranty. I eventually got so fed up with the thing that I traded it in before I paid it off. And yes I like my Explorer much better.

In case you are still reading I'll give you an example of my car troubles. I come out in the morning to drive to work and hear water sloshing. I find out that the back of my car has 1.5 inch puddles of water on the back floor. I check the windows and I didn't leave any of them open, so what do I do? I call the dealer and explain my problem. They take a look at it and apparently there's a thing called a plentum houseing. What it is is a gasket around the AC unit that hold the cover on it to keep it dry. Apparently the way water runs off the car, it drips right down on top of the AC unit, so they put a cover on it to shield it from the weather. The gasket on that part broke or something and bsically the heavy rain we got hit my car and was then funneled into the AC ducts. It followed the ducts right into my car and onto the floor in the back seats. Oh and the whole thing wasn't covered under warranty because it's a gasket, even though it was a known problem on my model and year. $500 later, I have a new gasket.

Same here, Turns out mine was one of the first few hundred off the line of the brand new model, 03 saw a complete redo of the 9-3. When this gets replaced, (which may be sooner than later) I will be looking at Slightly used nicer cars, Ex: 2001 Audi S4 would be my first choice.

My wife picked up a used 2000 Mustang 6.0L with 14K on it for $11K. Then we put on exhaust, GT rims, a hood insert, letters on the back and an insert on the third brake light. Car looks sweet and was a total steal. That's the way I'm going from now on.
