Only one month left
I only have one more month of training for my first marathon. On Aug 27th I will be running the 2nd Annual Silverton Alpine Marathon I am both very excited and very scared right now. I have never run more that 14 Miles (wich was last weekend) much less 26.2. Oh yea and the "Alpine" part of that worries me too, the run starts at 9,300Ft and tops out at 12,900Ft. Thats some high elevation running there. Ive been running here in Durango trying to find places that I can try at least 1000-2000Ft of elevation gain, but not many exist and the highest you can get around here is barely 9000Ft.
I have alot of training to do before then and I really hope my body holds up.

Just be sure to eat your vegetables. Oh--and I hear that if you spend enough on shoes, they'll do the running for you.
I comment on your blog when it is germaine, or when I have a question about the content. If you asked a poll on something, I would surely respond to that. Anyway, you should try running from town to DMR...have someone shuttle you. And later try running from DMR to silverton. Both are about 26 miles, and both have the kind of elevation change you are looking for. Word.
Good luck man. After about 6 or 7 miles, I ain't worth crap. I could probably drive or be carried the rest of the way, though!
I remember how winded and I was when we were hiking at Bryce Canyon (elev. 8000+). It was a bitch, especially for someone who lives most of her life at 38 feet above sea level! I wish you luck!
