We dont need no Stinking cable..

So its been over a year since I have watched any actuall TV. Thats OK because I have the Internet! I thought I might share some of the "IPTV" shows and Podcasts that I watch/listen to regularly.

I really think this medium will take off soon and will have TONS of awesome stuff on whatever you want to see.

Be carefull, most of these are rather geeky..

1. This Week in Tech: BEST PODCAST EVER! it is also available in video form here. This is a show where a bunch of tech/computer geeks sit around for an hour and talk tech. Just awesome.

2. Diggnation: Both Podcast and Video. Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht (geeks) sit around and talk about the weeks top stories on Digg (my favorite website).

3. Systm & SubSystm: Kevin Rose and Dan Huard give "How Too's" on tech stuff. I particularly like the MythTV episode. Gonna get me one of those..

4. Red Vs Blue: A great episodic comedy show based on Halo, Very funny.

5. Digital Life TV: Patrick Norton Talks about tech and games...

6. Open Alpha: Jenn Cutter talks about gaming. Its a new show, I just started watching, so far it has been pretty good.

7. NerdTV: A show put on by PBS. I have not watched it yet, but seems to be interesting. basically PBS interviews various big names in the Computer industry.

Enjoy!

Here fishy fishy fishy

In my effort to finally finish moving in and getting everything set up, I decided to take advantage of the motivation and set up one of my fish tanks that have been lying dormant for years.

So I am pretty excited to do this and probably a bit over confident (but that’s normal for me) and made it one of my goals for the day (the other goals were to finish setting up the home theater and finish the rest of the living room.)

After tip-toeing around all the junk in the garage to grab one of the two 29 Gallon tanks(which were of course all the way in the back) I finally made it back into the house with all the necessary equipment to begin the setup. I am examining the tank for any new cracks, it had cracked a few years ago but was sealed and working when I last put it away. I saw nothing new and all the silicone sealant was still good. so I set it op on my desk and began the arduous task of filling one pot of water an pouring it in. After about 10 of these I noticed some water on the floor. SHIT! Ok, drain the tank, go buy some more sealant and look a little more closely. I managed to find a place in the old sealant that looked like it had worn through and was likely the culprit. I sealed it up and began filling again (a 45 Min process of running back and fourth from the sink with a full pot of water.) I was fully examining for leaks after almost every lap. Everything was looking good.

With the tank finally full, I started all the pumps and filters to make sure everything was still running. Excellent, it works! So I headed off to the fish store to get some decorations and some fish to add. An hour and $150 worth of fish and supplies later I came home only to find water soaking though my old wooden desk. Crap! Drain the tank again and look for more leaks (keep in mind that draining this thing with no hose is a pain in the ass.) I took it outside and re-sealed every crack I could see, every corner, everything. Let it dry and begin the process again.

This time I let it sit for quite some time after each fill to check for leaks. Not a drop, OK now it is completely full, still not a drop. I let it sit as long as I feel comfortable leaving all those fish in their little travel bags. Everything is looking good. So I finish it all up, release the fish, plant the plants and sit back to admire... Drip... Drip... Drip...

Now I’m getting pissed. It is now 4 PM and I have been working on it since 10. Catch the fish, put them back in the bags, drain the tank, take it outside, and seal it up. This time I used the entire tube of silicone, on everything that could possibly leak. I put it up on some milk crates and filled it up outside, I was not taking any chances this time. The tank is full, and it has been sitting outside on the crates for an hour, the only water on the deck are from the previous draining sessions. So I let is sit for another half an hour.

Finally, its done, I see no leaks. Water is extremely heavy so I can't lift it with any more that a little bit of water in the bottom. So I drain it, again. Put it inside, Fill it back up, release the fish... ahh done, it looks great. I keep a close eye on it for the next few hours.

At around 9:45... Drip... Drip... Drip… OK I am done screwing with this. I head out to the garage and get the other tank. I didn’t want to use that tank because it is specifically designed for a saltwater setup and I really wanted a saltwater tank at some point, oh well, there goes that idea. An hour and a half of transfer later it is done. Clean tank, no leaks, happy fish. What a pain in the ass. So of my goals for the day, I completed one, at 11:50 PM 13 hours of messing with the damn fish tank.

As I am relaxing afterward I am examining the broken tank I notice a tag on the side. Guess what is says...

Excuse me, would you mind if I ate your grass?

As I was getting ready for work this morning I noticed our friendly neighbors in the back yard eating the grass. No not people... duh... deer. There were three of them in the yard. Not that this is an uncommon sight, it is just the first time I've seen them at my new house so that makes it significant.

I took some pictures, you can see them here.

New Photo from the Marathon

I just recieved the Photo of me reaching the top of California Pass 12,980 Ft, at the 16.3 Mile mark. This was the end of the hardest part of the whole run. I was so glad to be at the top.

At the moment I can only put pictures in my Photogallery but I will update these posts and embed the images as soon as I can, until then heres a link to the new picture.

What do you get when you cross a $65K car, a lake, and a 17 IQ?

It was Saturday night, Mike, Lindsey, The Captain, and I were at the docks at the Navajo Reservoir Dam to refill our water supply and meet up with some other friends that were going to join us later. As we are sitting on the dock I watch a brand new Corvette Z06 pull up and park on the hill. The driver was a mid 40’s man with a gut, and his passenger… I would say she was his daughter, but they way they spoke to each other I’m pretty sure she was his mistress. I thought nothing much more of this and listened as The Captain discussed how his boat, the Margarita Spill, was having motor trouble.

A few minutes had passed when the vette began to slowly roll down the hill. He must be turning around to leave. To our surprise though, it did not stop as it got close to the water. It was when the sports car began drifting out into the lake and toward the Spill that we realized that the driver and the girl were nowhere around! The Captain reacts with intentions of protecting his boat by jumping into the water in front to the car. I was immediately jumping in behind him. We went completely under! The water was at least 10 ft deep! This vette was now a boat!

We nearly had the car back on land when the owner came running up. “Hey thanks guys, I can’t swim.” That was it! I would have been freaking out! Finally the wheels are back on solid ground, but most of the car is still underwater. “Hey, you think I should just start it and back it out the rest of the way?” Come on man, all of us here have been drinking for most of the evening and even we know that is not a good idea! We explain to him that he probably doesn’t want to do that until a mechanic has gone through the engine. He didn't seem to understand and kept asking anyway.

At this point I realized how awesome it would be to have pictures of this, it was SO funny that none of us could contain ourselves and were chuckling under our breath. I thought about going back to the boat to get my camera. *FLASH* Sweet! Lindsey had grabbed my camera and started taking pictures! Perfect timing!

We spent a few minutes looking for a suitable place to tow from the back, but we couldn’t see anything. We didn't want to do any damage to the suspension by trying to pull this now 6000lb by hooking up to it. I checked the owners manual to look for the tow points and under towing it says “Please consult your dealer or towing professional in order to tow this car.” Again he does not really understand our warnings and begins to tie it to something. While he is doing this his girlfriend decided to get in. She opens the door which of course allows the water inside to level out and the car settles down on the ground. When she is in there she lets the parking brake go! It rolls back down into the water! Luckily we were still standing there and were able to stop it before it goes too far in.

That was it though, no more help from us. Some other people had arrived and were helping him pull it out so we went back to the boat. We get to watch him get it pulled almost out of the water, but because the wheels were turned, the car veered directly toward the dock. They stop pulling and try adjusting the straps to pull the other way. Immediately the car begins rolling back into the water and starts floating away! That’s three times! Sorry dude but our help was a one time deal and you go two for one, you are on your own for this one! We were having a hard time not laughing at them while they floundered to pull it out again so we untied and began out trek back to the houseboat (without our water.) When our friends arrived a bit later they said he had spend about an hour with the stereo blaring static and trying to start it while water was flowing from the exhaust. He could have saved it before but I’m sure there’s water in the cylinders and it is probably pretty rusted by now.

What I cant figure out is how a guy with that level of intelligence can afford a car like that? That’s $65K new, Inheritance must be nice.

Interesting Idea...

John C Dvorak has decided that California should be split into 3 different states. I think that it could be a pretty interesting idea. could balance a lot of thing out both economically and politically, nationally and in Cali itself.

Read his idea Here.

What do you think?

I am still here...

...but not really.

I am very busy at work and I close on my house tomorrow, so I will be moving for the next few days. Oh yea, and I called to get Internet hooked up at my new place and they cant do it until the 27th!! Give me a break! Give me the damn modem and Ill do it myself! I hate having to wait because of assumed stupidity! I guarantee I know a heck of a lot more about setting up networks than the cable guy, but I cant do it because I am not a certified technician.

Anyway I may be a bit slow on some posts for the next short while, but I promise there will be pictures galore of the moving process and the new house!

Under the table and dreaming.

So I had an eventfull day yesterday.

On tuesday night as I am getting ready to leave work, one of the other managers walks up to me and hands me 2 tickets to see Dave Mattews Band Live in Albuquerque, NM last night.

So yesterday I left work at two, Jumped in the truck, filled it with gas @ 3.19 a gallon, and took off on a 4 hour drive to Albu-crappy (I just dont want to spell it again.)

I have always loved DMB and was thrilled to see them live. I have never been to a real concert before so to have my first be DMB was awesome.

Anyway I arrived back in durango @ around 4:45AM and promptly showed up to work this morning @ 8.

Spur of the moment, exausting and extremely fun trip. Just the way I like them.

So Im a just a little bit tired today, but it was all worth it.
