Happy Thanksgiving! Take 2..

Well I finally got ahold of my host and now have access again so here we go!

I just had probably my most fun Turkey Day ever! When I bought this house one of the unwritten rules was that I had to continue the tradition of what I call the Straggler Thanksgiving. This is where all of my friends that are still in town for Thanksgiving gather and have a great time together. This was the first of many to come (I hope anyway.)

The day began @ 8:30 when I woke up to go run the annual Turkey Trot 5 Mile Race held every thanksgiving. This year I was able quite a few of my friends do join me. I finished 3 minutes behind my friends Mark and Jarrod, whom I really wanted to try to keep up with, and 1 min ahead of my time last year. That is how everyone should start a day of excess, with a little bit of cleansing exercise.

We all returned to my house around noon and began preparing the meal. I had 2 turkeys ready to go and some rolls, everything else was being brought by some other guests. I had no idea what to expect. I had never cooked a turkey, nor ever really paid any attention when someone else was doing it. Needless to say I was a little worried about it. My noobness was clear as soon as I begin cleaning them out. My friends Amber and Chris, who had traveled from Park City to join, had to give me many a lesson on what I was doing. I am very glad they were here. Also there during preparation was Mike and Sadie, again I am very thankful they were there and knew what they were doing.

My plan was to roast one turkey and fry the other, so with the one roasting in the oven I began injecting the other with an herb marinade so that it could soak up the flavor for a few hours before it was cooked. The only part I was not fully prepared for was the oil needed for the fryer. I had gone to every single store in town and they were all sold out, frying must be getting very popular because even the infinitely supplied Wal-mart was out. Luckily my friend Jarrod works at a restaurant that was closed all day so we snuck in and 'borrowed' some oil ;-)

With most of my work done I spent the rest of the afternoon entertaining the rest of the guests and making sure everyone had something to drink (especially myself.) We all had a great time sipping Spiced Apple Cider, drinking beer, snacking on appetizers, and playing (or trying to) horse-shoes.

Time to fry the turkey... With the oil heated to a hefty 350F. I had the task of lowering the 33 F turkey into the pot. A task I was VERY afraid of. 45 seconds later and about 6 oz of adrenaline through the veins, the task was done and she was frying like a champ.

Both turkeys were done at almost the same time, and they both looked great.

Fried:

Roasted:

We carved them up, set up the food buffet style, and went to town...

After we had all stuffed ourselves with some of the best tasting food ever (why is it that it always tastes better on thanksgiving?) we continued the party with a 12 player Cranium match. With everybody slightly drunk and their brains shut off because all the blood was being used to digest everything that game turned out to be quite entertaining. Around 11 the last of the stragglers left and I quickly passed out from an excess of drink, food, adrenaline, excitement, fun, and laughter.

Problems..

Ok, This just isnt working... I cant log in to any of the admin pages for my server, Comments dont show up, the Forgoten Password thing says my user doesnt exist, and blogger seem to be the only thing that can still log in. If I cant get ahold of this company hosting my blog soon I am going to move it to a different host.

I would like to blame my lack of posts lately on the fact that my server is on the fritz, but that would not be true. I just havent had much opportunity to write.

Ive been busy Planning (or thinking about planning) the annual Thanksgiving time fun. I have Inhereted the tradition from Jeff, who has hosted the Straggler Thanksgiving for at least the last three years. Should be some great fun! Ive got 11 people coming for the feast, and 7 of us are going to run the Turkey Trot 5 Mile Fun Run that morning! Cant Wait!

Saturday night I played some Poker out at the Dalton Rance Golf Club. This is my 3rd time out there I think, and I have come in 2nd twice! I dont actually think I am all that good at the game but I seem to hold my own. Make me want to play a whole lot more..

Sorry for the skimpy posts, tonight and lately. This season, the 'where is winter' season, is the worst. The weather is OK during the day, but freezing at night. The kicker is that there is no snow to show for it. The peaks are bare, the trees are brown, the grass is brown, and its dark FAR too early. Pretty depressing time really... But the snow will be here soon and it will brighten everything up and I will be more excited to talk about stuff!

Thank god for plan B...

For some reason I can only log into my server through blogger. I would try to fix it right now, but I really need to get some sleep. Anyway, On to plan B... Tonights LB represents the aftermath of 2 hours of Halo on XBOX Live. Good times had by all...

Weekend of nothing... Results are in

Ok, I didn't plan this weekend to be this way, but I had the laziest, least productive and what I thought would be the best weekend to relax in a while (possibly ever.) I don't really know how it happened, I think it had to do with the fact that this week was one of the more stressful, and least productive weeks I have ever had at work. I spent all week basically working on a single bug, and still never solved it. All I did was find a good way around it. There is no satisfaction in that.

Saturday I got up around 9:30 because I heard my roommate running around and I wanted to chat with her. She is never home at all, I see her for 10 min here, 10 min there. It sucks, when I first met her all I wanted was her to be my girlfriend, I tried everything I had to make that work. All she wanted was a friend. OK, I get that I'm over it now. After a falling-out because I was pissed at the way I was getting treated (misunderstandings on both sides) I just want to be a friend now, but it seems I must have screwed that up too, because I have to schedule an appointment to ever see her for more that 5 min. It almost feels like she is avoiding me. She and I never get to do anything together, she always has something else to do. Two times since she moved in have we actually talked or done something together. If I invite her to dinner or a hike or something there is always someone else she can invite along, but if she is going to dinner or a hike with someone else do I ever get invited? No.. (OK that was some grumpy speculation but that's how I feel.) I'm sure I am just making it worse now too, because the only time I get to see here I make fun of the fact that I don't get to see her, because I'm a sarcastic asshole, and my only way of coping with the jealousy and sadness is to be sarcastic. Ok, I'm off on another rant right now, this could go on for awhile.. Ill get back to the subject.

30 seconds after I walked out of my room to talk she was gone, and all day like she always is, so I did nothing but download and watch TV shows.

Joey, My Name is Earl, Mythbusters, South Park, Simpsons, Family Guy, Fifth Gear.

I didn't even get out of my pajamas until 3:30, and only then because I was helping my friend JD move.

I was in bed by 9:30 watching more TV shows. Sunday was the same, I woke up around 8:45 (way early for me, but again attempting to get some time to hang out with Kristen, but she promptly left as soon as I walked out of my room again, so I went back to bed.) The computer was right there by my so I watched more TV. 11:00 I rolled out of bed, moved to the living room and played some more on the computer (downloaded more episodes.)

5:00 PM I went to Mark And Sarahs' house for a great dinner, by far was the highlight of the weekend. The only issue (and it isn't that much of an issue) I had was that I was the only single person there.. Mark and Sarah (married), Mike and Sadie, (married) Jarrod and Jess, and me.. yay..

Anyway I thought this was just going to be an awesome re-charge for the weeks ahead, wake up on Monday morning refreshed and ready to work. That's what I thought.. This morning I slept through my alarm. Bought the wrong soda at the gas station (sugar free tastes like ass) and in general I'm in one of the more grumpy moods I've been in for awhile. I am actually fairly certain it is all my guilt from wasting the weekend crashing down on me as soon as responsibility kicked in again..

I need a run...

Trick or Treat?

I’ve said it before, I think Halloween is an underappreciated Holiday. Not so much for what we are celebrating but in the sense that it is a damn good time to celebrate.

Last night a few of us gathered at Mike and Sadie’s house to hand out candy to the trick-or-treaters. Well that turns out to be the not a whole lot of work because not many kids venture that far off the beaten path (only ½ block.) So the evening consisted more of conversation and snacks (and the occasional cocktail) than anything else. We discussed the ins and outs of trick-or-treating, the age at when walking up to someone’s door and asking for candy is no longer appropriate (we definitely had a few that should not have been doing it,) and general Halloween festivities. Around 9:30 we motivated to the typical spot we go to on Monday nights… Lady Falconburgs Barley Exchange.

It was a normal Pint Night except for the fact that it was packed, and everyone was in costume! It’s a good thing I had my awesome pirate costume to show off! Jared showed up as Gilligan, and his girlfriend was one of the girls on the show, we don’t know which but we called her the hot one.

What Pint Night post would be complete without the gruesome stories of me get shot down by the ladies? Well I won’t disappoint! I’m in full Pirate character, so I figured I had better go all out and use that to my advantage… or disadvantage... however you wish to think of it. Anyway, I saw Carmen Sandiego walking around so I called that a good place to start. I wasn’t too confident with my ability’s to pull of any Pirate pickup lines so I used her costume as my opener. “Man I spent years looking for you all over the world, and here you are!” Well, it is probably a good thing that when I got near her I saw that she was talking to a bunch of much cooler guys than me so I turned around. I don’t think that line would have worked anyway. Round two: Cowgirl, or one of the 3 wandering around, she was chatting with some other girls so I went with the full on Pirate voice, “Arrg, May I borrow this fine young lady for a bit of conversation” The moment I began saying it I knew I was doomed, but I was committed so I had to continue. It worked, she started laughing and she actually started to talk to me. That didn't last long though, after she complemented me on my “best line of the night” she pulled out the “I’m going over there, bye.” No excuse, just bye. Well, at least she didn't fake it and chat with me to be nice... On to the next one…

Its getting late, I’m done with my beverages, I had failed twice already in a 15 minute period, so I head toward the bar to close my tab for the evening. At the bar was a girl all by herself, no drink, no costume, looking bored. I would tell you my cheesy line but I don’t remember it, it seems it is the ones I don’t remember that work because 10 minutes later I was still chatting with her when the bartender brought us 2 full beers (I had not ordered them, he just gave them to me, I guess that’s a perk of being a regular.) I don’t know how I did it but an hour went by and I was still sitting with her. She was laughing at my jokes, or me, but who cares she was laughing. Her friends would stop by from time to time obviously being good friends trying to provide her an easy out from talking to this geeky pirate at the bar, but she would introduce me, and they would leave. I felt pretty good about that. The evening wore down and she needed to drive her fiends home, so in a last minute struggle to find a pen, I handed her my business card. I felt pretty dumb with that move, but she noted the email address on the card and said she would email me. I call that a good sign, but who knows. She left and now I am suck waiting to see if she actually tries to talk to me again. I’ve got my fingers crossed but I don’t want to get my hopes up, because left to their own devices girls never make the call. (but she said email, so there’s a chance!)

P.S. I am still waiting to get some pictures of my costume, I will post them as soon as I get them!
